Christina Smith, PT, DPT, NCS

Specialist in advanced gait technology rehabilitation at Sheltering Arms

Bio

Christina Smith, PT, DPT, NCS, has worked with Sheltering Arms Institute since 2016. She specializes in neurological disorders, including stroke, spinal cord injury, and Parkinson’s disease. As a specialist and mentor in the use of advanced gait technology, Christina provides interventions with robotics and bodyweight support systems with a focus on utilizing the principles of neuroplasticity for optimal rehab benefit. As an outpatient champion for rehab technology, Christina assists in translation of knowledge into practice across multiple outpatient centers. She currently participates as a mentor for the VCU/Sheltering Arms Institute Neurologic Clinical Specialist Residency program. Christina is an alumnus of Liberty University where she received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology-Exercise Science and Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Jessi Vaught, PT, DPT, NCS, is the Physical Therapy Advisor at Sheltering Arms Institute. As a member of the clinical science team, she supports the PT department in mentoring and student programs, knowledge translation, clinical practice guideline use, and program development. Prior to her current position, she was a full-time clinician in inpatient rehabilitation. She has a passion for those with neurological diagnoses and earned her Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) in 2012. Jessi has been a mentor in the VCU/Sheltering Arms Institute Neurologic Clinical Specialist Residency program and currently serves as a manager in the program. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and has presented at multiple national and international conferences.

The Rehabilitation Clinic Zihlschlacht specializes in the treatment of brain and nerve injured patients.
