Craig Hospital is a world-renowned, premier center for specialty rehabilitation and research for people with spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. It is a 93-bed inpatient/outpatient, nonprofit hospital that offers acute, short-and long-term care. Craig Hospital has more than 50 physical therapists and physical therapy aides and more than 45 occupational therapists and certified occupational therapy assistants dedicated solely to rehabilitation of people with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. Physical therapy is customized to each patient’s individual needs. Occupational therapists provide special expertise in building therapeutic daily routines and in adapting activities to help people participate in their life roles.

Both inpatients and outpatients participate in physical therapy. To provide this therapy, Craig Hospital integrates Hocoma devices in their clinical routine. A team of clinical experts supports us in improving our devices, educating other clinicians in the application of Hocoma devices and they help us improve our therapy solutions.

The state hospital Hochzirl specializes in acute neurological treatment of damaged nervous systems, as well as chronic diseases that require temporary treatment. To these ends, they use medical robotics. They have a highly specialized robotics team, which includes two sports scientists, that leverages three Lokomats and one Erigo with which to treat their patients. This highly efficient setting allows them to increase the therapy time for their patients with their existing resources. Patients benefit from these highly intensive treatments and visit the clinic from all over the world. At Murnau, the neurological rehabilitation team provides all phases of neurological rehabilitation starting from the day of the accident up to reintegration into daily life. To provide this, Murnau offers integrated care of the patient, which includes neurophysiological care, physiotherapy and ergotherapy adapted to the respective condition of the patient, physical and balneological applications, water- and hippotherapy, sport and medical training therapy, swallowing therapy and speech/language therapy.

Besides the above-mentioned standard therapy methods, Murnau also applies cutting edge therapy methods such as Botox therapy, bone casting or splinting and intrathecal administration. The center has two Lokomats in a parallel setting and an Erigo which they often use as preparation for Lokomat therapy. This enables them to provide patients very intensive therapy, focusing on the quality of the individual sessions. Murnau’s clinical team supports Hocoma in further improving our therapy concepts and clinical models to provide effective and efficient therapy.

The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) is one of five university hospitals in Switzerland. The department of clinical neurosciences treats different health problems and diseases associated with the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Its Unit of Acute Neurorehabilitation is formed by an interprofessional team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, speech therapists, neuropsychologists and coordinators.

Upon admission, patients in neurology and neurosurgery are supported by an assessment of their potential for rehabilitation. Subsequently and in consultation with the relevant departments, they are directed in centers specialized in neural relearning. The Erigo is used during the whole treatment process starting in acute care to improve the patient’s awareness as well as motor function by intensive early mobilization. The CHUV supports Hocoma with important clinical expertise and scientific insights in order to help us improve the Erigo.

The Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at The Wellington Hospital is the largest independent rehabilitation unit in the UK. It is based in North London. We provide comprehensive and intensive interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation programmes to patients with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions and complex medical disability (to patients aged 18 and over).

We are the only facility in the UK currently using the Erigo, Armeo and Lokomat as an integral part of our patients’ rehabilitation program. We are currently looking at expanding our research portfolio and are keen to be part of the development of clinical guidelines and education material for the use of robotics and assistive technologies in Neurological Rehabilitation. We collaborate closely with the Hocoma team and have been involved in trialling new developments in the clinical setting.
