Together with the Swedish company Bioservo and the largest Dutch independent research institute on technology applications in healthcare, Roessingh Research and Development, Hocoma has been awarded a grant for the HandinMind project (EUROSTARS project E!8227) that is working on the development of a robotic glove as an integrated, innovative solution for hand rehabilitation after stroke.

The HandinMind project gathers competencies in advanced robotics, modern communication technology and the latest research on rehabilitation to develop a unique robotic glove that can add extra strength to the grip of persons with reduced hand function and facilitate active execution of hand movements. The new innovation focuses on the healthcare and rehabilitation market, in particular, the treatment of post-stroke patients. The robotic glove targets the following aspects:

  • Enhanced gripping and grasping support to address hand weakness.
  • Assisted hand opening.
  • „Intention detection“ logic that activates the support only if the user initiates the movement.
  • Interface with external system that allows the user to perform adaptive therapeutic exercises and assessment routines.

The HandinMind project is funded by the European programme Eurostars, the Swedish Innovation Agency Vinnova, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI.
