Lokomat® Therapy - Answers to frequently asked questions

Question: What prerequisites must a patient fulfill to be able to take part in Lokomat training?
 
Answer: In principle, patients with gait impairments arising from a variety of causes can benefit from Lokomat training. Before any training begins, the patient’s doctor has to decide whether Lokomat training will be useful and feasible for the individual patient.
 
 
Question: How long does a training session with the Lokomat system last?
 
Answer: The duration of a training session depends very much on the individual patient and the therapy plan. In many clinics, a training session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes and is made up of the following steps:
 

  • Approx. 10 minutes to set-up a patient
  • Approx. 20 - 45 minutes gait training
  • Approx. 5 minutes to unstrap patient

 
Question: What does a training session cost, and who pays?
 
Answer: Individual clinics set their own prices for Lokomat training. Your insurance provider will be able to inform you whether the costs are covered by your insurance.
 
 
Question: Can children also be trained using the Lokomat?
 
Answer: The Pediatric Lokomat can be used to train children from the age of about four years if the gait orthosis can be adjusted adequately. To date, the Pediatric Lokomat has mainly been used for children with cerebral palsy.
