History of Hocoma

2011

In March 2011 Hocoma presented a new version of the LokomatPro that features a new and more compact design and the Augmented Feedback as standard equipment. In the future, upgrading options will extend this new version of the LokomatPro as a sophisticated gait training device. Furthermore, Hocoma announces the ArmeoPower, which completes the Armeo Therapy Concept. The ArmeoPower has been specifically designed for arm and hand therapy in an early stage of rehabilitation.

2010

Beginning of the year Hocoma opens a second subsidiary in Singapore and, also in January 2010, Hocoma is honored with the Red Herring 100 Global Award as one of the 100 most innovative start-ups worldwide. In June, Hocoma is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a symposium at which acknowledged personalities from health care, science, Swiss politics and economy discuss ongoing subjects within the neurorehabilitation. With the launch of the LokomatNanos, a new addition to the Lokomat product line is introduced into the market. Based on the ArmeoSpring, the Armeo Therapy Concept was expanded with the ArmeoSpring Pediatric. With the ValedoMotion, Hocoma furthermore entered the field of low back pain therapy. Hocoma and idiag AG set up a collaboration to support low back pain therapy and expand the back pain therapy concept of Valedo with the ValedoShape, the first spine assessment device of its kind. The ValedoShape and the ValedoMotion are available as of 2011.

2009

In April Hocoma was named a winner of the Red Herring 100 Europe, an award given to the top 100 private technology companies. During this year Hocoma also presents the ArmeoBoom, its newest device in the Armeo Therapy Concept.

2008

In 2008, the Mexican foundation Teletón orders twelve LokomatPro with Pediatric Orthoses and equips its Mexican rehabilitation centers for children with neurological movement disorders with these systems.

2007

With the introduction of the ArmeoSpring, Hocoma enters a new business field, the rehabilitation of upper extremities. Hocoma also changes its corporate identity with a new company logo and corporate design and continues to expand its business.

2006

Introduction of the Andago. The first prototype of the Armeo is being presented at Medica 2006 in Düsseldorf. Hocoma strengthens its know-how base and clinical network with the formation of the Hocoma Scientific Advisory Board. Hocoma Inc. moves from Chicago to Rockland/Massachusetts.

2005

The Lokomat is being presented at the Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. The LokomatPro with Pediatric Orthoses de-signed for children and the Erigo are launched.

2004

Hocoma starts sales activities in Asia and other parts of Europe. The first prototype of the Erigo is produced. First formation of a Hocoma subsidiary in Chicago, USA with two employees.

2003

Hocoma moves with 13 employees from Zurich to bigger facilities in Volketswil.

2001

First sales activities in Switzerland, Germany and USA. Hocoma continues to expand sales activities into countries all over the world.

2000

The Lokomat reaches market maturity. Hocoma is converted into a stock corporation with support by private investors and starts its operative business with two employees.

1999

First prototype of the Lokomat is produced in cooperation with the Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich.

1996

Hocoma is founded as a limited liability company by the electrical and biomedical engineers Gery Colombo and Matthias Jörg and by the economist Peter Hostettler. Start of the Lokomat development project.

1995

First idea to develop automated treadmill training by Gery Colombo and Prof Volker Dietz.
